I’ve always loved dice, from being just kind of amazed at how someone would put those little black dots on Monopoly dice when I was a kid, to getting into D&D at almost 40 and having access to the literal thousands upon thousands of options on the market.I heard about 1985 Games a few years back but I wasn’t about to drop $70 on a set of dice when I wasn’t in a game. Now I am, and I’m playing in a world where tieflings (my character) have an uncanny draw toward gemstones. As someone that also loves space, the Starstorm set seemed like a perfect fit – shiny, sparkly, and gem like, but with a bit of a space vibe. So I decided to pull the trigger and get a set.I’m a fan of the VHS-style box but, honestly, aside from the packaging, I dunno if there’s really any connection to the vintage/retro aspect. A VHS tape on the 20 on the d20 is a real missed opportunity here. A generic 20 feels cheap for the price. That said, it is nice to have them come in foam packaging instead of a loose bag though, and the box does look cool on my collectables shelf, so that’s nice.However, I’m a bit disappointed by these dice. Yes, they look beautiful! The numbers are bright and easy to read. The resin pour is flawless. They’re exactly what I expected. But, I bought a set of sharp dice a couple years ago on Amazon when some friends were going to start a game. I paid $38 for them at the time, and they’re $28 now. Holding them side by side, the font is identical, the weights are identical, and the quality is identical. While the Starfield design is different than the design from that other brand, that other brand offers a near-identical option.What I ordered is exactly what I wanted. It is a quality product. I can’t complain about that. However, outside of the box, there’s nothing that really makes them stand out as a set of dice that’s worth what they cost, especially when near-identical alternatives can be found for 1/3-1/2 the price. And that makes me feel lied to.

Ordered 2 sets of dice one was the right set, and the other was the wrong color. I applied to return the set and have it replaced but was sent the same exact color again.
